PREPREG
The term prepreg designates layers and fabrics pre-impregnated
with special resin in the factory. Mechanical impregnation permits
the ideal ratio of resin to fibres. Prepreg rolls must be stored
carefully and in a cool place. Fibres of any form are also highly
sensitive to impurities such as grinding dust or resin. The
fabric should therefore in principle be stored in a sealed container.
Carbon fibre prepreg is easier to process than Kevlar as the
aramid fibre contained in Kevlar becomes slightly frayed at
the edges during the grinding work. Dust is always generated
during grinding work. When this work is being performed, in
principle respiratory filters should be used and the dust extracted
immediately. Sanding work and the attachment of additional mould
parts to an existing mould are referred to as assembling. |
